What drove the market?
Reuters reported that Indian stocks defied a global technology selloff and ended their strongest week in nearly six years: Nifty gained 8.6% for the week and Sensex 8.8%. Softer crude oil, a return of overseas buying and improved sentiment after US elections supported the rebound. Financial shares were major weekly leaders, while Reliance Industries benefited from upbeat quarterly results. On Friday, the cited closing data showed pharma (+1.21%) outperforming IT (+0.43%) among the selected sector indices above; these are not an exhaustive sector ranking. Reuters, 6 Nov.
